CENTER OF REHABILITATION AND ADAPTATION

SOCIAL WORK WITH MENTHAL and PHYSYCAL DISABILITIES CHILDREN and ADULTS

!! 1 - 2 - 3 months from the first Saturday in every month during the year !!

The AISI Centre works 9 months during the year: from September 20 until June 15. From December 26 until January 15 is a New Year’s holidays, but the volunteers can be employed in a charity house.

Minimum stay is 1 month up to 3 months.

LOCATION: TBILISI

Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, was founded in the 4th century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali on the site of its warm mineral-water springs. Tbilisi is an awe-inspiring city with ancient and fascinating history. It is a lively town with friendly people, that offers many cultural and leisure activities.

PROJECT MOTIVATION and SHORT HISTORY of “AISI”:

The Union “Center of Rehabilitation and Adaptation“ AISI was established in 2002 by the efforts of parents of children with disability and professionals. One of the parents allocated a building, which was repaired with the support of Ireland Foundation of Saint Lazarus. The Center began operation for 30 beneficiaries in 2004. The beneficiaries of the Center are the children and adolescents with mild and moderate learning disability. In 2001 the joint effort of partners and professionals has found the Union “AISI” Centre of Rehabilitation and Adaptation, which targeted to support the social integration of adolescents with disabilities and building an equal society in Georgia. In 2006 the joint effort of partners and professional has founded Union “NADI” (on the basis of “AISI” Centre of Social Rehabilitation and Adaptation) – aiming to promote a model for adolescents with disabilities over 17 years in Georgia. The personnel of the Center is the team of professionals, conducting the practical implementation of updated approaches, international experience of rehabilitation and social adaptation on the basis of multi-disciplinary team activities (occupational therapists, special teacher, psychologist, social worker, doctor, tapestry teacher, music teacher, art teacher, theatre director). In the Centre “AISI” work 8 teachers, psychologist and occupational therapist. Children and adolescents with disabilities reach maximum level of independence in everyday life activities (including self-care, domestic activities, social relations, pre-vocational and vocational skill development) and acquire an awareness of civil society, supporting an increase of quality of life and community integration. Increase of independence in everyday activities of adolescence with disabilities (cooking in the kitchen). Pre–vocational and vocational training for future employment. Nowadays “AISI” owns two buildings which are connected to each other. The buildings include: medical, therapeutic and working rooms. Also, there are kitchen and dining room; sporting and assembly hall; sewing workshop, which is equipped with modern technologies. The centre serves more than 57 persons with disabilities; provide them with transport, feeding twice a day and individual or group program, which is selected specially for them. “AISI” has been carrying “children’s rehabilitation/ habilitation” on its base since 2015, which is subprogram of state program-“care for children”. This program serves 25 beneficiaries at this moment. There are social industrials, hothouse of cucumber and love-apple, sewing workshop, which is equipped with modern technologies, small ranches “rabbit-guhch”, “hen house” on “AISI’s” base. From September 2013 the rehabilitation and adaptation center AISI holds 2 two stored buildings at suburbs of Tbilisi, with the 9202 m2 beautiful yard, with the hothouse and garden of fruit trees, small ranch. The beneficiaries of the center are able to conduct garden activities, sport activities on the playground and in the small swimming pool too. These mentioned projects carry out with the financial help of private donors and partner organizations.

NOTE:

LYVG is cooperating with CENTER OF YOUTH VOLUNTARY ACTIVITIES “DEINETA” in Kaunas with project LT-21-9-2008-R2 “Panemune Nursing Home” for September 2008 - September 2009 (volunteer NINO KIKNAVELIDZE diplomas psychologist from social centre AISI) and with youth organization "Social Action" in Vilnius (volunteer LASHA ROSTOBAIA art therapeutic from social centre AISI) project 2005-LT-13 “Social interaction between healthy and impaired youth in a social” in Educational centre "Viltis" ("Hope") for September 2008 - September 2009.

ACCOMMODATION:

The centre can provide four bed-rooms (with 2-3 beds in each), kitchen, and bath-room (hot water, central heating). In the room of the staff there is a computer connected to internet. Accommodation will be provided in the facility of center, which is situated approximately 10km from city center. Public transportation is available until 10pm.

FOOD: Will be provided three times a day: launch at 11:00 and dinner at 14:00 and supper.

WORK ACTIVITIES:

6 hours per day social pedagogic work with mentally or physically handicapped children, adolescents and adults with mild , moderate and severe learning disabilities children from 6 to 17 years and adults from 18 years and above (about 57 people). Participate and help teenagers with different disabilities in the following activities: tapestry and polygraph workshops, music classes, drama, drawing, sport activities, after the activities volunteers should help to tidy up the environment; after dinner time they should organize little games. They can help to print little notebooks and learn how to weave the Georgian carpet by hands.

• The Volunteer needs to be interested in social - educational work.
• Volunteers should be flexible and willing to work with/together with children, love children.
• It is preferable that the volunteer will have some experience in working with children.
• It is preferable that the volunteer will be creative.
• Volunteers should be willing to become a part of big family.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

Not necessary but recommended: you can bring your music instruments, toys, songs and music and of course good mood and your creativity.

LEISURE TIME:

After 16:00 volunteers can visit places of interest; museums; theatre or cinema (by their own), to participate in the activities planned by project manager. Excursions historical places will be provided (Mzcheta, Shiomgvime, Davit Gareji etc.).

LANGUAGE: English, Russian, Georgian.

THE LIMITATION OF THE PROGRAM: max 10 volunteers at the same time.

AGE: 18 - 26+

PARTICIPATION FEE: 300,00 EUR for 1 month. Participation fee is to be paid upon arrival.

REMARK: To bring strangers in the centre is not allowed.

No smoking, no drinking,no drugs and sex during the working hours in the working place!!
